Nationwide Awakening
Another understanding that I was given during the initial outpouring is that there is going to be a nationwide awakening in Japan. I use the term, “awakening” as it has been used in the past to describe a time when many people come to faith at the same time. Jesus promised the Helper would come following His death and resurrection, and the Holy Spirit did indeed come on Pentecost - the first “awakening.” The Holy Spirit fell upon and filled those who had gathered in the upper room. Then others came and were ‘pierced to the heart’ and scripture records that on that one day, around ‘three thousand’ came to faith. More were added ‘day by day.’ Many awakenings have been recorded around the world since then. Many may remember the recent awakening that occurred on the campus of Asbury College in February of 2023. Following their regularly scheduled chapel service, several students remained after service to repent and pray. The Holy Spirit began to move among the few students who remained. The movement spread like a wildfire. Before long, no one there wanted to leave. Soon, so many others came that it temporarily shut down the university for some time. I was blessed to have experienced an awakening in Colorado Springs during the summer of 1974 which led me, my sister, and what seemed to be around 90 percent of the high school age young adults, to faith on the Air Force Base where we lived. Having experienced one awakening, I’ve always hoped to be able to experience another. I hope the one in Japan occurs in my lifetime while we’re there.
