Every Prefecture

When I was praying about Japan and where we would live, I wondered how we could possibly make a difference in this nation of millions of people. I have led small groups, the largest of which was my Sunday morning class of around 35 students. Are we to start a small group in Beppu? How can that small group make a difference? These questions aren’t ones of doubt - just questions that I had and continue to have. Despite any questions, we are committed to His call. His thoughts are much higher than our thoughts. One morning during the initial outpouring, the Lord spoke to my heart that His Spirit will not be limited to one city or area of Japan, but it will flow throughout the entire nation of Japan. It was then that my understanding of our purpose was broadened. With this new understanding, I sought to find out how the nation of Japan is organized, and learned that Japan is subdivided into prefectures. Japanese prefectures are like states or provinces, 47 in all. Upon learning about its division into prefectures, I sensed that we are to carry His Spirit to each one. We are to carry the Lord’s Spirit across Japan. I have drawn great encouragement in reading Abraham’s testimony of leaving his home and journeying to a land that the Lord would show him.
Arise, walk about the land through its length and breadth; for I will give it to you.

Genesis 13:16-17

The ‘you’ in that passage is of course not me. It is for Jesus, and His promised kingdom! Abraham was called to leave his family and from what he knew to an unknown and foreign land. We are to walk across Japan. To Woody and I, it is a foreign and unknown land. I have started, and hope to continue, recording what we see, learn and experience in each prefecture.
