College students
One morning during a period of outpouring, God gave me an understanding that He is going to provide an opportunity to work with college students. Woody has taught at a local college for many years, and she and I have worked with high school and college age students in church settings. So doing so wouldn't be a particularly unusual endeavor for us. Which college students and how we are to gain permission remains unknown. But we did find it amazing that Asia Pacific University in Beppu does their instruction in English. I'm not certain, but I believe it is the only university in Japan to do so. We visited Asia Pacific University in Beppu during our trip to Kyushu in 2023. We walked around the campus and met a few students and administrators even though it was during the spring when their classes were not in session. While there, we learned about some teaching opportunities and thought that we might be able to obtain a visa through Woody applying to become an English professor at APU. She applied for openings but did not receive an offer. We will look for opportunities to engage with that campus when we relocate to Beppu. Just prior, and during our 2025 trip to Tokyo, we learned that a student in a campus club can request a campus facility and an outside guest to meet with them. We saw this as helpful information in understanding how we might be able to engage with students if Woody is not part of the faculty. More to be revealed, but we believe our previous work with college students has been in part a preparation for what’s to come.
